Reggaeton icon Daddy Yankee has announced that he and his wife, Mireddys González, are divorcing after nearly three decades of marriage. The couple, who share three children, has decided to part ways after 29 years together.
In a heartfelt message shared on his Instagram Stories on December 2, Daddy Yankee—whose real name is Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez—revealed the news in Spanish. “With deep respect and honesty, I want to share significant news about my personal life,” he wrote. “After more than two decades of marriage and several months of trying to save our relationship, my lawyers have responded to the divorce petition filed by Mireddys.”
Daddy Yankee, 48, married González in 1995 when they were both just 17 years old. Despite their decision to separate, the artist expressed gratitude for their years together and emphasized the importance of their family.
“I respect Mireddys’ decision,” he continued. “I value the time we spent together—a time filled with blessings, values, love, and the beautiful family we created, which will always remain our priority. Although this is a challenging period, I understand it is part of my life journey.”
The “Gasolina” singer also expressed appreciation for the life he and González built, including their three children: Jesaaelys, 28, Yamilet, 27, and Jeremy, 26. “I am profoundly grateful to everyone who has supported us along the way and kindly ask for privacy during this process,” he added. “This will be my only statement on the matter.”
Over the years, the couple maintained a relatively private relationship, though they occasionally shared insights into their bond. González, who also served as Daddy Yankee’s former manager and CEO of El Cartel Records, celebrated her husband’s illustrious career when he announced his retirement from music in 2022. Reflecting on their 27th wedding anniversary, she wrote in a since-deleted Instagram post, “As we mark this special day, I hear you share with the world your decision to retire from the music that has been your passion for the past three decades. Now, it’s your turn to enjoy what you’ve built as Raymond Ayala.”
In a 2017 episode of Billboard’s Latin Connection Podcast, Daddy Yankee shared his admiration for González’s unwavering support. “It’s been an incredible journey with her, and I love her,” he said. “She’s been by my side since before I was Daddy Yankee. She fell in love with Raymond Ayala, not DY.”
While this chapter marks a significant transition for the couple, Daddy Yankee has made it clear that their family and mutual respect will remain central as they move forward.
